I was surrounded by all the details of Heather & Sam’s wedding day, the invitations, the flowers, the rings, all of it. I could hear Heather in the bathroom getting her makeup done, giggling about her husband-to-be. I looked up as she was laughing to grab my other lens, and that’s when I saw it. The picture of Sam’s parents, framed and sitting on display. It wasn’t placed there for the wedding day. It had been there for years. Sitting in their home as a reminder of the promises they had made to each other all that time ago. 

I was immediately fixated on it. Not necessarily the image itself. Not the dress, or the hair, or the location. But everything it represented. How since that image was taken, babies had been born and raised, memories had been made, and dreams had been chased. Since then, little kids had run around barefoot in the grass, gone off to college, and now, on this day, were getting married themselves. How beautiful and perfect that on Heather & Sam’s wedding day, they were surrounded by the families that made them who they are, in the place where Sam grew up and where Heather & Sam had felt at home at together over the last decade of loving each other.

This wedding was everything a wedding should be. A celebration of two people who make each other the best versions of themselves, surrounded by the people they love most in a place that feels like home. With their whole future stretched out in front of them, they were also surrounded by the love that shaped their childhoods, and it was such a beautiful thing to witness. And somehow, everything seemed to fall into place whenever they were next to each other. The nerves disappeared the second they locked eyes. The noise of the day faded away. The best part of the entire day was simply this: two people who were meant to be together are finally stepping into the future they’ve spent years preparing for.

They’re stepping out of a season of preparation. Preparation for careers, for marriage, for building a life together. And now they get to step into a season of watching all of those things come to fruition, side by side.

What an honor it was to be part of your wedding day. The way both of you, along with your families, welcomed me in like an old friend was so incredibly special. I hope you carry these images with you into every season ahead, and that one day, one of these photos sits framed on a desk or hanging in your home as a reminder of all the memories you’ve built together over the years. I’ll forever be cheering you on in your marriage.
